Welcome to my food rants where I will go over my opinions on different foods and rations that I have had and my rating on them. I will leave a pros and cons list and give my conclusion with a rating.
Everything here is a personal opinion that I've formed myself, to each their own on how they feel about this. Please let me know what you think about each one and feel free to give me more food options to try out and ill add them to the review form.
Let us begin!
MRE-
Pros:
Quite the calories
Moderate to high amount of calories
Taste pretty good
Cheap by the case (about 80 to 130 for 12 or so, depends on where you get em)
Sort of easy to pack when not stripped
Lasts forever
Jalapeno cheese spread
The heaters can be used for other things
Cons:
Big when unstripped
Bulky
A lot of plastic bags n such
In conclusion, I like these one or two in my BOB, but most of mine are at my BOL or pantry or vehicle kit. You can store these just about anywhere. They're pretty cheap by the case. The ones I keep in my BOB and INCH bag, I strip down. My rating varies depending on location, but as an average rating, I give it a mean 8.5/10.
Mountain House and Other Freeze-Dried Foods-
Pros:
Light as hell
Multiple servings can be in a small bag
Just add water
Tastes great
Very compact
Super cheap and can be bought at almost any store
Easy to make and all in one bag
Resealable
Lasts forever
Cons:
If you want a warm or hot meal, you have to heat the water yourself and some people may not have that
When you compress the bag, sometimes its shape is odd but it forms to the area well too
In conclusion, an amazing addition to bags and mobile kits. I don't really see myself storing this in a pantry since I have other stocks but these are definitely in my mobile kits, BOB, INCH bag, and vehicle kits. My rating, 9/10.
Cans-
Pros:
Great self-defense weapon in a gas station in Florida or something
Food tastes great af
Lasts forever undented and unopened
Many many options
Cheap
Homey feeling
Cons:
It's all water-based, so weight is a big issue. Along with the metal itself
Cylinders
Have to deal with metal cans when finished
Requires extra equipment to access contents
In conclusion, cans are great for budget and pantry stocking. My BOB has a couple of cans, not many because of weight n such. Tho my pantry and BOL are stocked with cans. when it comes to mobile/vehicle kits, I don't like it. When it's for stationary areas and budget/new preppers, then yes absolutely do that. My rating, idk like a 7/10 tbh. Mostly cuz they taste good and they're cheap.
Old ass Vietnam era C-Rats:
no. just no thank you. 4/10
Calorie Blocks:
Comes In 1200, 2400, and 3600 Bricks
Pros-
High calorie
Cheaper than dirt (not like the price gouging website)
Cinnamon and coconut flavors
Very easy to store
Cons-
Tastes like... not good but not bad, definitely not a "yeah id eat that every day" thing
In conclusion, I save these for my survival kit. I might have some in a vehicle or trailer, but mostly it's survival kits. 8/10
Alright, that concludes it for now. I might do a drink and condiment section maybe...

I hate hotdogs
